since a few of you liked the last post, here's another poem i wrote not too long ago.
_________________________________________
We wanted to run
We learned to wait instead
To stand our ground
To hold our breath
You always want to run
when there’s nothing to run from
But you can’t chase the days
And you can’t change the way
Things are meant to happen
Just trust
It’s all gonna come together
You looked at me
And you thought I knew what you were thinking
So I smiled like I did the time before
But honestly I don’t know what the hell for
How many smiles does it take
Till we ever get somewhere?
And who can promise it won’t all break apart
Once we finally get there?
Wherever it is we’re going
There’s no way of knowing
Still the suspense is growing
So I’ll stick around
I try not to be the complaining type
It’s just that it’s tough maintaining what might
Never go anywhere
It’ll all play out
Let it all play out
*i didn't write this for adam, but i am posting it for him.

...
One day I’ll leave this place
and get as far the hell away
as the coins in my pocket will take me
as the beat in my chest will make me
I would say you should come along
but truth be told I’m not much fun
in extended amounts of time
I say what’s on my mind
and you might mind what I say
I’m looking to wander
and meet some interesting folks
Looking to wonder
what that man meant when he spoke
About prostitutes and lepers and the poor and the rich
About the quick and the dead, the glutton and the bitch
How somehow
Beneath it all
Beyond it all
There’s hope
There’s truth
And there’s Him and there’s them
There’s me and there’s you
And somehow it all fits together
Perfectly
devastatingly
and get as far the hell away
as the coins in my pocket will take me
as the beat in my chest will make me
I would say you should come along
but truth be told I’m not much fun

thoughts from hawaii
i'm in hawaii right now, and here are some things of note:
-i touched a huge SEA TURTLE today. it was glorious.
-there is no such thing as 'too much pineapple' in myyyyy book
-i bought the new coldplay cd. and i enjoy it.
-'island life' is a pretty foreign concept to me. my sister almost bought this flowery tube top/dress until i asked/reminded her, "do you think you'll actually wear that outside of hawaii?" her answer: probably not. as she puts it back on the rack. i don't mean to come off as a brat, but come on. people don't seem to be so compelled to wear flowers in their hair and all over their clothing anywhere else but in the tropics. well, most people. not including my father and his affinity with hawaiian shirts.
-i really want to go snorkeling. we're supposedly going tomorrow, after we see some volcano. not that i don't care about volcanoes, but ...eh, i guess i don't really care about volcanoes. i'll hum damien rice to pass the time ("volcanoes melt you downnn...")
-life, overall, is really really good lately. and has been for several months. i guess i finally put some things to rest, truly surrendered some ideas/plans i'd been holding onto to the lord, and he has blessed me with this peace and contentedness. it's awesome.
-i really like hawaii, but i wish it were time for europe.
-life is too short for drama. i've had enough of it in my lifetime; family drama, some crappy friends in seattle, etc etc. so now i do all i can to keep out of it, whatever it is about. even if it means avoiding people. or doing all i can to remain either neutral or altogether oblivious. beats the alternative.
-we went to costco today. COSTCO. in HAWAII. i couldn't help but marvel at the sheer mass of goods inside that one building, and wondered how many boats i took to get all of it here. and then i thought about all the cars on this island....it's a good thing the world is not made up of many me's. it would be a very different world; maybe cleaner but also less advanced because so much of what is happening and has happened is beyond me.
-purple.

taylor time
last weekend, a few of my good friends from seattle came down for a visit. riley, nick, and jordan taylor (yes, they are brothers) and nick's girlfriend anna all came down.
it was a HOOOT.
it's always a hoot hanging out with those boys, and this time was no exception.
we did a lot of fun things during the fiev days they were here, including:
-santa monica promenade, pier, and beach
-knott's berry farm with their father, who also happens to be the head pastor at my old church up there
-huntington beach and pier
-a very large and enjoyable engagement party in long beach
-a union line show in pomona: the nicest, cheapest fundraiser i've ever been to
-disneyland, on quite possibly the most crowded day in my experience
nick's impenetrable fro

jordan

still dont know what hit us

tree hugger

taylah brothas

riley dean

nicholas james

sully loved nick's fro

anna and nick's jumping-for-joy-because-we're-at-disneyland shot

striking a princess pose at the little princess arena

year of a million dreams (come true!)

p.s. i'm in HAWAII. !!

shannon and most of her family, minus 2.

shannon and her super awesome boyfriend Donny.

sorry shan, i don't remember this sweet man's name....but he was a real gem.

her is shan with her brother ryan, showing off her Torey ring.

more graduation pictures
thanks to shannon for getting some great shots- she, melissa, and stefanie fully came right up to where all the grads were standing to say hello and get some good shots

i really like this profile shot

my lovely sister Lia!

shannie shan shan- "ooo hoo hoo hooooo!"

this makes me laugh. i call it my ferris bueller shot.

stammer! stefanie was so sweet to ASK if she could come to my long, hot, boring graduation! sure you can, sweet

i like this one even though my face looks super round because it makes me say "awwww, friendship!"

one of the only pictures with me and both my parents in it

p.s. i've decided that graduation caps are not flattering on me. at all.

the movie of the summer

i remember first seeing the preview for WALL*E back in July, before Ratatouille. Even though it was just a short little preview, which told us absolutely nothing about the plot, as soon as I saw those cute little robot eyes and heard that sweet little robot voice say "WAAAAAA LEEEEE," i have been set on seeing this film.
WELL, the time is near, friends.
WALL*E comes out on June 27th.
i plan on seeing the midnight showing, if there is one (there better BE one!)
let me know if you're interested, as i am putting together a group, and the more WALL*E enthusiasts, the merrier.
it
will
be
glorious.
