My best friend
Shannon had her senior art show at Biola last week, and let me tell you-- it was beyond blogworthy.
Shannon is a brilliant photographer and an inspiring artist, and her show exceeded my expectations.
The title of her show was "Today," which is deceptively simple, if you ask me. She aimed to capture life's little nuances-- beauty in both the small and large, and weight in the overlooked.

ALSO: the presentation and selection of photos
changed every day for all five days of the exhibition! That's my above-and-beyond bestie.

Her chosen medium was polaroids, which again strikes me with its seeming simplicity. I'm sure I was not alone when I went to the gallery expecting to see a commonplace, anybody-could-have-taken-these, hodge-podge of polaroids.
Oh, no. I was so wrong.

I entered to find an organic-yet-gridlike flow of breathtaking polaroids-- the likes of which I've only had small tastes of during my 8 years friendship with Shannon. To many, polaroids are what many have become comfortable calling a mundane and mainstream form of photographic art. Well, Shannon presented a fresh take on an old medium--it was a giant, calculated yet free-flowing mass of color. It still strikes me now, as I think about it again. She played with color, form, abstract representation of 'normal life.' It felt like a fresh look at the world; a much needed glimpse of everything I've already seen for years
and yet never fully seen.

She also hung a few enlargements of selected polaroids printed on square canvases (approx. 12"x12").

Here's one that caught my eye in particular,

You can see DAY ONE, in detail on Shannon's blog,
here.
And THEN, as if the show itself wasn't enough, there was a
whole table of sweet goodies!

The little candy bags were the coolest-- yes, please!

Shannon never skips out on the details,

Hard to tell here, but these babies are
green roses. Pretty hard to find, and my favorite!

Shannon. It was awesome. Keep it uppp. !!!
