Tattoo?

B
een thinking a lot lately about getting a tattoo of the outline of Washington state somewhere- probably on my wrist or arm somewhere. What do you think?

[snazzy cool drop cap from Daily Drop Cap, and so what if I changed the sentence to begin with a B because I liked the B?]

Sometimes

Sometimes when I have a lot on my mind, it makes it hard to think of things to blog about. That's kind of weird, huh?

Well, here are some pictures of J's dog Stitch to entertain you in the meantime:

Masquerade, round 2

Danielle had a masquerade party for her birthday last weekend, becoming our second masquerade party in less than a month. It was a hoot!

Jordan and I wore the same masks again- although I had to make some adjustments to spruce mine up after I left it in the back of my car and the heat waves melted the metallic ribbons and part of the sequin trim. Pretty hilariously awesome, no?

These pictures make it look like we were the only people there, but there were plenty of Danielle's friends snacking and dancing away (it was a dance party, by the way).

Been to a masquerade party lately? I'd love to see your pictures!

Mia Farrow

.:Mia Farrow:.
[circa her Frank Sinatra/Rosemary's Baby days]

Love her white ruffle-hem dress/gloves/mask combo,
and I can relate with the masquerade madness in the air lately

Sweet prints, feminine details

For the writers, the artists, the creators

Creativity

“There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique, and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium; and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how it compares with other expression. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is on a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.”

-Martha Graham (American Dancer, Teacher, and Choreographer of modern dance 1894-1991)

Wandering around Tustin

Little alleys like this one in old town Tustin remind me why I really do (however reluctantly,) love Orange County. For every outdoor shopping mall, there's a spot chock full of character, waiting to be appreciated and photographed.

Tustin is also chock-full of history- check out these sweet photos of an auto shop and the volunteer firefighter crew, circa 1900:

I wish guys still dressed like that.

Masquerade!

My friend Priscilla's birthday was a couple weeks ago, and she decided to throw a masquerade party. Jordan and I had both never been to one, so we had a great time shopping for masks.

Here's P:

J was crafty and modified his with paint and feathers. Turned out cool but borderline creepy (I suppose all masquerade masks are borderline creepy though, huh?):

P's cousin's girlfriend made the superawesome cake:

it was really fun to see the masks everyone chose,

Priscilla has a knack for party-planning (and throwing); she filled the place with extra masks, cool decor, centerpieces, and a photo-station (still waiting to see how those turned out!)

here are a few Maritza took- Tanya and Will,

Chelsea and Priscilla,

J is always lighting the cake candles at b-day parties, it seems <3

when I saw this one,
I thought of Selena. As in "Dreaming of You Tonight."
Ha.

Priscilla already has an exciting year ahead of her- with at least one international trip planned, to start a Sunday school at a church in Nicaragua. Happy birthday again to a swell friend! :]

Balloons!

There is something so magical about balloons,

and the joy they can bring to grown people is often understated,

A Couple Commercials I LOVE

The first time I saw this one, I laughed out loud, and hard, and then had Jordan rewind the DVR so we could rewatch it:

"Now, let's orbit."
I love it. Why are they planets? Why are they in a conference room? Would a Jimmy Dean breakfast help the solar system orbit better?
Who cares; it's just awesome.

And I'm also diggin' Kindle's cool stop motion commercials. They're stunning. Here's one that illustrates my point:

Epic

Ever since I saw the "Epic Headband" in Anthropologie's spring catalog (READ: since this morning, when I flipped through it), I have been fascinated by it.

it's led me on a search to find more turban-style headwear/bands.
Here are two from Jennifer Behr:

Not a huge fan of the crochet one, unless I venture into colder weather.

here's another, from Yigal Azrouel:
and one more, from Forever 21, surprisingly:
It seems I become increasingly more interested in fashion the more homework/papers I have piling up....

Anyway, who likes the turban? who loathes it?
