Things That Make the Heart Beat Faster: Day 31

.:Accordions & harmonicas:.

this being the final day of the Favorite Things Project, I thought I'd give you all a double dosage. These are my two favorite instruments. A couple years back, I took up the harmonica. I was inspired by the greats: Dylan and Young, and I had this vision of one day being able to play the harmonica and guitar simultaneously. Two songs, specifically: "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young and "It Ain't Me Babe," written by Dylan and covered by a number of others.

Anyway, I bought a Hohner Blues Harp and got to it. It's been a slow process, but I'm having fun with it. Jordan bought me the hands-free holder thingy a couple years ago, so all I have to do is learn to play guitar and I'm set! ;)

I'd like to think the accordion appreciation has been around my whole life, but I think it really kicked in sometime in '06 when I discovered and fell in love with Beirut. The way they use it is absolutely enchanting. The song "Wroclai" in particular. mmmm. The music of Amelie also played a big part in fostering this love.

I picked up this little beauty at the Long Beach Antique Market yesterday for only $15! I'm having a blast with it, and have been taking it in the car with me to play at stop lights. Cue enthusiastic (read: quizzical) looks from neighboring cars. Here is Jordan trying it out,

Terrariums 1 and 2

One item on my summer to-do list is to make a few terrariums. I visited the gardening center near my house, and picked up a few little lovies to give a new home to. Here's what today produced:

I bought enough soil and plants for a big one, but then forgot that i don't really have a big jar or cool domed space to put them in.....so that will have to wait for another day.

Summer hair

I've had long hair for years, and have gotten really used to it, but I'm getting a little bored with it. I've actually been itching to chop it off for a couple months now. I've had a goal/vision to donate 10-12 inches, and I keep seeing cute short coifs that make me really tempted....

The hardest part would be letting go of the messy braid, which has become my default these days:
