M.I.A.
It's been a crazybusy few days, but I wanted to pop in and apologize for not making time or finding mental energy to post anything. Do you ever feel like everything around you is moving super fast, but you're moving in slow motion? That sounds like a movie scene, but it's how I really feel. I'm currently juggling a million different projects and things on my to do list (shooting weddings, attending showers and b-day parties, and trying to sell as many books as I can on half.com), and I don't actually know how to juggle.
Thanks for sticking with me---- hopefully you've got me on a feed that tells you when I post instead of checking in everyday to see that I haven't.
Stay tuned for more bridal shower goodness, a few more articles for Locale Magazine (I'm writing three for the next issue! One involves visiting TEN restaurants I've never been to! God wants me to EAT!), and [hopefully] an update on my attempt to secure a job in LA and then move! Exciting times. Reminding myself to breathe.
Hope your midsummer has been dreamy! ;)

FTF #22
Chances are, at some point in your life you've been asked the question, "if you had a super power, what would it be?" These people obviously don't understand that super powers choose YOU (usually by way of a nuclear accident), but we humor them anyway. There's flying, invisibility, teleporting, levitation--all the usual ones. But what about all the other super power possibilities? The "less useful" ones? This week, I bring you:
Five "Totally Useless" Super Powers
I'd Like to Have
1) Tears that can repair minor cracks in glass! You know, for all the times you get those little cracks in your windshield. I'd just cry onto it, and it will repair LIKE MAGIC! Cracked hand mirror? No problem. Cracked window? Depends on the size of the crack. I'd be limited to small cracks, like about the size of a quarter.
2) Remote control whisperer! How many times have you lost that pesky remote? If I had this super power, I could just come over and talk to it, wherever it is. I think it'd be like Harry Potter when he's around horcruxes; I'd hear a faint screeching noise and know a/the remote is nearby.
3) Lettuce knife hands! You've heard of Edward Scissorhands, but what about Blythe LettuceKnifeHands (still working on the title)? With this super power, I could karate chop my way through all sorts of vegetables and even soft woods. I'd be a shoe-in for a job at Souplantation.
4) The ability to spin my arms very fast! You know when cartoon characters spin their legs really fast and are able to run really, really fast? Well, it'd be like that, but with my arms. So, if I do a handstand, I could potentially "run" very fast with my arms. OR, combined with the lettuce knife hands, I could revolutionize the packaged salad industry. Imagine.
5) Pages turn when I snap! Nothing's more annoying than being engrossed in a good book and then having to turn the pages while you're reading! With this power, pages would turn when I snap my fingers! So much easier!
I'd like to take a moment to thank my dear friend Blaire for her help brainstorming this week's Five Things Friday. Other ideas we came up with that were not selected but deserve honorable mention include: the power to braid hair with my eyes, the ability to morph myself into food items of equal size as my current body mass, tying balloons by thinking, having candle-lighting fingers, the ability to exhale helium (for balloons), and the ability to communicate with doves.
What would some of your top useless super powers be?

Locale article: published!
Remember when I mentioned the article I was working on-- the best OC hotels? Well, it was published recently in Locale Magazine's summer issue! You can read it here. Now, I'm working on a couple profile articles on some cool local people, as well as an article about a handful of the best restaurants in OC! Stay tuned for those!

Wedding attendance
Typically, the peak season for weddings is between about April and August. This year, I'm experiencing a delayed season. I have two major weddings coming up- one that I'm in at the end of August (Danielle's), and one that I get to attend for a close friend in November (Maritza's). With the weddings of close friends comes a plethora of other festive events: bridal showers, lingerie showers, bachelorette parties, etc etc. To put it simply: there's a lot of dressing up to be done.
I needed a break from packing a few days ago, so I spent some time on poylvore, styling a few looks for wedding attendance. Several of these would translate well into shower attending outfits, too, I think.
Edgy sweet:
Do you have any weddings to attend in the next few months? What are the factors you take into account when planning your outfit?

I heart Vera
Happy Monday! I've had a very busy day of errands, job applications, faxing, banking, etc, but I'm super excited because I just found out I "won" this little beauty on ebay:
It's a vintage needlepoint picture from the designer Vera. You probably know of Vera as a designer of colorful and distinctive silk scarves. Recently, Anthropologie has offered a whole line of We Love Vera products that use her designs on t-shirts, mugs, and more. I don't know the year (or even decade) when Vera released needlepoint patterns, but I'm guessing this one's at least 30 years old (maybe closer to 40).
I got it for $9, including shipping! So thrilled!
Hope your weekend was fun and that your day was a great start to a great week. :)

Five T-Shirts I'd Like to Make
***Harry Potter Edition***
In honor of today's (U.S.) release of the final installment of the final film in the series, this week I give you a Harry Potter themed Five Things Friday! If you haven't read the books, or are mid-way: don't worry, no spoilers. These are just a few fun ideas for t-shirts I've had floating around in my mind for awhile. If you steal them, I will be MAD. So don't.
#1: This is probably the cream of the crop and my pride and glory of this batch of ideas. It came to me suddenly, probably during a boring lecture at school, and I love, love, love it. If I only make one sure out of the batch of these five, it will be this one. If you're reading this and you're looking to market Harry Potter t-shirts and make millions, let's talk. I'm your girl.
#2: Last semester, the professor who taught the James Joyce seminar I took also taught a Harry Potter course for undergrads. She would tell us funny stories from the class, and new Potter vocabulary evolving. One thing she told us was that "snape" was being used as a verb. To say, "You totally snaped her" is synonymous with saying "you spoiled the ending/surprise for her." Love it. !!
#3 might be a little controversial. It evolved out of a convo I had with my friend Blaire, who's decided her patronus is a giraffe. I thought for awhile about what my patronus would be. I'm a Christian, and I love Jesus, so I joked that maybe Jesus is my patronus. She laughed. But really, I'm thinking my patronus might be a gazelle.
#4 is pretty self explanatory, I think? ;)
#5= Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare
If you haven't read any of the Harry Potter books, I strongly encourage you to do so! I was skeptical too, at first, but I can confidently say I've never met anyone who didn't like the series after reading it. It's always the ones who haven't read it who bash it. I will add as a caveat that it doesn't really "hook" you until the end of the third book, so plow through the first two and then try not to be hooked! ;)

Lost, then found
Some photos I meant to share with you a few weeks ago- from cooking in Wisconsin, to flying home from Chicago, to driving to Palm Springs. Hope your summer is full of beautiful moments, delicious things to eat, and gracious people to eat with.
